Nai Pa Luk

Elena Rybina

Story

This work was created in the traditional technique of applique fabric on cloth from broadcloth. Bead embroidery technique is applied.

For this piece I used the image of a capercaillie (luk) and the Sun (nai). These two symbols are most often used and are most recognizable as images characteristic of the Khanty ethnic group. Capercaillie symbolizes respect for the feminine origines and childhood. The Sun is one of the most revered symbols and one of the easiest to make.
