I am a Meskwaki woman, mother, artist and activist and I am also profoundly deaf. I am happy to be a part of this project and I wanted my beadwork to represent my people and culture. This work displays my Indigenous culture in general and the bottom design of this beadwork is a separate and connected part which shows my distinct Meskwaki culture. I feel like that is how all indigenous people are, while we’re all the same, parts of our tribes’ culture are unique and define who we are. I used size 13 beads to make my art, and these are very small which helped me create more details in my work.
