My contribution to this project is a study of traditional Meskwaki plant fiber weaving. This art form was once practiced by literally every woman/girl in our tribe. The red in this work represents the earth and the natural basswood color represents our home. Unfortunately, this form of weaving became a lost art for our people approximately 60 years ago. For the past 6 years I have been a part of a small group of Meskwaki women that have embarked on the revitalization of traditional plant fiber weaving. Along with my weaving, I also make traditional regalia and a variety of beadwork.
